I've been playing the playtest for a long time, and I'm just thrilled. You can tell how much the developer loved AC6 and just wanted more of it. But it's turned out even better. No big story, just the amazing AC gameplay, over and over again. Good job Sage! Just keep going and living your own AC dream. See you in our AC.

Honestly this is my armored core 6. As good as that game is feels far too soulslike in its combat flow. This however hits me right into the acfa itch i had. Played quite a bit of the demo and im glad to see progress transfers to the full game. And as much as i dont like rougelikes, here i dont mind it since it feels more like armored core then a rougelike focus. Absolutely recommend it for anyone who likes armored core.

If you feel like you've played out the many offerings of an Armored Core and wish for something with a nearly unending endgame, you might wanna take a peek at solo developer Sage Boatman's newly released RIG Riot. Now how exactly is this one like a neverending Armored Core? Well the moment to moment gameplay is heavily based upon feeling like one of FromSoftwares mecha classics but the interesting twist here is the game heavily utilizes generation, roguelike style. What I mean is that there are literal THOUSANDS of different mech parts to find, which means your loadout could be such a huge number of different combinations I can't even calculate it. Because I'm not that smart. But what I do know is that RIG Riot is also setting itself up to be just different enough that it'll also not feel like a straight up copycat of its series of inspiration. The gameplay, not only running off this roguelike mission and parts generation thing, also has some big differences like the removal of staggers, wall jumping, booster toggles and a bunch more. We'll get into that. Plot wise this really isn't a major part of the gameplay experience. More or less the plot exists as some vague worldbuilding

this game was made for people like me who want to play armored core forever. dev is also very responsive when it comes to bug fixes. I haven't seen many people mention this yet, but the art style is so focused and perfect for what this game is. thank you sage boatman!

You need to scrap the mission game mode, or at the very least make it secondary to Assault until you overhaul it. The game is putting its worst foot forward and I nearly refunded it outright because of it. For someone's first published game, it's a valiant attempt to expand on the Armored Core formula, even if it falls flat in execution. With more time and updates it could be worth playing, but as it stands, even on its best game mode it's only mildly engaging. Enemy AI and spawning both need a serious overhaul before I could recommend it. The roguelike elements weaken the core (pun unintended) of the genre's gameplay loop of tweaking your mech to fit the way you pilot it, as do the programmatically generated mech parts. The game is also far too easy to hold my attention. Between the large open spaces, the poor AI and its general lack of aggression, there's very little pressure on the player that one strafe boost won't trivialize. I wish the developer the best and hope he can turn the game into something worthwhile with time.

Gameplay is significantly easier than in demo - not challenging and has lost* its "chaos" that the demo excelled in. During demo the game would turn chaotic with even powerful builds such as snipers with the fire augmentation being just only enough to go head to head against common enemies. Mini bosses are also now much less aggressive and play defensively rather than offensively. I really loved the demo, was really excited for this game but having played several rounds it's not got the same "spice" as the demo did. If there is a difficulty mode in the future with more aggressiveness from enemies I will happily come back to try it again but until then it's just not got the same challenge / stress that the demo invited, rewarded and excelled in gameplay loop wise. Sorry guys :(

Oh dear. This game's premise and physics and most of the combat is great but the bugs render it near unplayable. I played a lot of the demo over time and was hoping these fixes were coming for release, but this was not the case. The interface on both controller and M+KB break quite often, especially in the settings menu and during a run. I've had to abandon two runs so far because of the same issue where I have to kill a collection of bandits and one of them never spawns. Energy Sword doesn't slash forward if you are also boosting forward because your mech tilts forward too much. There is also no official channel to report bugs, at least none that are advertised or mentioned. I'm afraid this one didn't cook enough, which is a shame. I'll update my review if the issues get fixed, but right now unless you are a die hard fan and seriously starved for mech action, keep this on your radar but wait for fixes. As in love as I am with the idea of the game, it is far too frustrating to play in the current state.

If you played the demo and feel like this game got significantly easier now that it's released, I implore you to play on Assault mode instead of Mission, I played my first three matches in Mission mode and was very underwhelmed, however, after switching over to Assault mode, I got that good old desperate 'I need to GTFO immediately' feeling that I got from the demo. Very good game.
