  You need to approach this game with a very specific mindset. You need to be in the mood for a comfy JRPG that's 80% structured like the first 12 episodes of an anime with 6 seasons, with the last 20% being "the hook" that your friend tells you to wait until you watch before judging whether or not you want to continue with the series. Getting through the first 80% will be a chore if you're in a rush and not ready to start an adventure. But I am glad I stuck with it because when I closed credits, I'm sitting here needing the 2nd Chapter ASAP. Battle system is fun. Play on Hard Mode if you're someone with experience with these kinds of games--it'll feel absolutely perfect without being too punishing.

  Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, even though it’s not a game from this year, it has become one of my favorites of 2026 and has earned a spot in my all time top 10 games. I haven’t played the original, but I enjoyed this remake so much that I’ll definitely play the original in the near future. It features beautiful graphics, a great story, and overall feels like an almost perfect game. I can’t wait for Chapter 2. <3

  ---{ Note }--- Absolutely fantastic JRPG with my absolute favourite combat system that I've ever seen for a 'turn-based game'. The amount of strategy involved with it can take a little while getting used to, but as soon as you do, its one of the best feelings you can get. Storywise it does lean a little bit hard on the 'slice of life anime' feeling throughout but by the end you get one of the greatest moments to end the story that also has quite a fair few mysteries involved.   A great way for new players to get into the Trails series. Stays true to the original but updated to play like a modern game. Runs great on my Steamdeck and Bazzite PC running an old gtx 1060 graphics card.

  Really enjoying the complex story and characters in this game. Highly recommend. Oh, yeah, 20 hours in and not a hint of a bug or error.

  I have never seen more 5/10 elements present in the same game. 5/10 writing, the characters are serviceable but completely unremarkable. 5/10 gameplay, basic RTB and turn based battles that offer neither deep decision making or satisfying moments. 5/10 UI, the menu is full of endless tabs of info that is ultimately pointless when facing the 500th health sponge generic fantasy monster. I game looks like standard anime fare and will disappear from my mind by the end of the week. The knowledge that supposedly a great series is hidden behind this slog of a game is annoying. It's like being told something gets good at season 6. No one should have to play a 60 hour game to "get to the good part."

  One word: "PEAK" The world is amazing, the combat is fun, and the story keeps getting better and better the further you get. The characters are great, the music is fantastic, and the whole game just has such a great atmosphere. For me, this was easily a 10/10 game. Definitely looking forward to Chapter 2!!

  Just another mediocre JRPG story on top of convoluted systems that are made more complicated without any care to design, just to appease JRPG fans. Book, recipe, armor systems all identical essentially. Get recipe, armor. weapons and upgrade all of them, but only once and with the same U material because boring JRPG. No real depth of gameplay just menus of boring and the most generic story. Get recipe and gamble 50/50 on if you have to make it once or 7 times because ♥♥♥♥ you. At least other JRPGs have deep systems, this game just pretends. But they didn't forget the morons buying this game, they made endless costumes for them to buy like NPCs. Welcome to the skin selling game in a JRPG. The ultimate ♥♥♥♥ you to fans. I love that Joshua keep getting calling a black haired NPC while he has blue hair. Just more proof it is another cash grab pile of trash that JRPG fans will eat up because they worship trash writing.
